It's very difficult for me, a 'Les Mis' aficionado, to give a fair review of every other musical I watched, because nothing compared to my all-time fav, even after so many years (12 to be exact?). And it's hardly surprising. Great story, potent vocals, gripping lyrics, stunning props, flawless everything. Yes, I'm biased, so much so that I thought Silvie Paladino who played Donna in the Melbourne cast was good, simply because she used to play 'Eponine' in Les Mis. The rest of the cast, somehow, paled in comparison because, why, they aren't/weren't in Les Mis! Still, when friends asked what I thought of Mamma Mia, I had to say something. Don't get me wrong. It's good, really. Except for the plot (or lack thereof), it was highly entertaining, funny, and Abba's songs (though I'm not a fan) automatically set your body in motion. Tap, tap, tap ... sway, sway, sway. And even though Sophie's (I think her name's Kellie Rode) voice could be more powerful, the props were amazingly versatile and the sound quality, superb. Of course, the cheap tic helped too. So, no reason to complain. None at all. :)
